Director's Summary

Our last concert, Dance Fusion, was held on Sunday, September 9, 2001, just two days before the tragic events that shook our country's very foundation. Since then, we've set out to build new beginnings, and perhaps this concert is an expression of that rebirth.

We've named this rendition "Ascending Spirits", where somber reflection is still with us but now with a determination to live to the fullest and move forward. The dances represent this vitality, the Phoenix reborn, rising out of the ashes of hardship and pain. They also evoke the great diversity of our country, with elements of the many cultures that found a home here.

In our small way, we want to show the world that difficult times bring out the best in us and that we can always feel the unfettered joy of artistic expression. Join us, as we take away the stock market, the economy, and politics and take you to a different plane, where rebirth is already under way.
