What should I wear to class?

For Jazz classes: Jazz pants (elastic waist, boot cut) or yoga pants, leotard or basic T-shirt, and jazz shoes.

For Lyrical classes: Leotard, tights or yoga pants, and ballet shoes.

For Contemporary classes: Leotard, tights or yoga pants, and foot undies or bare feet.

For Tap classes: Leotard or basic T-shirt, tights or jazz pants, and tap shoes.

For Hip-Hop classes: Fitted top or T-shirt, jazz pants or loose jeans or cargo pants (pants must not touch the floor), non black sole tennis shoes or hip-hop sneakers.

What should I bring to class?

We recommend you bring a bottle of water and a hand towel.

What class should I take to improve my balance, coordination and flexibility?

Beginning Jazz or Beginning Ballet classes.

What class should I take to develop technical proficiency, performance quality, and stylistic definition?

Jazz/Musical Theatre classes will help students become more fluent in a variety of jazz movement styles, rhythms, phrasing, and dynamics. Students at the intermediate and advanced levels work in several styles, which may include pop, funk, Latin, African, adagio, or blues.

What class should I take to look like music video dancers and stay in shape at the same time?

Hip Hop class.

What class should I take to develop a freer style?

Contempoary dance offers a lyrical and poetic way of moving. Contemporary style is characterized by the bending of the spine into spirals and contractions, as well as the use of off-center movements such as tilts and layouts. It lends itself to various types of music, including Pop, Alternative, Electronic, World, Rock, New Age, and Classical.

How many people are in each class?

There are approximately 8-15 people per class, depending on the type of class and level of the class

What is a production class?

Most dance classes are designed as a production class. A production class offers the student an opportunity to learn choreography, staging, costuming, and presentation forms of dance. In addition, a production class offers the student an opportunity to perform choreography on a live stage in front of an audience, and to have a keepsake of his or her performance (e.g., a recorded DVD). Students who show an aptitude for performing will be selected to participate in a biannual dance show. Students are evaluated on the basis of their retention of combinations, stamina, musicality, technique, work ethic, and attitude.

What if I have little to no dance experience?

Ariel Dance Productions provides a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for dancers of any level or aptitude. Instructors and choreographers hold high expectations for every student, but work to accommodate and cater to both groups' needs and individuals' needs in every class. Students are welcome to any class, whether they are complete beginners, a returning dancer, or a seasoned professional!

What is the typical age of students?

Classes are for teens and adults, and students' ages can range anywhere available for children?

Currently, there are two classes available for children: Beginning Kids Hip Hop (7-11 years old) and Musical Theatre Basics (7-11 years old). Instructors in these classes have experience working with children of varying ages.

Can I observe a class or try out a class?

You are welcome to observe a class free of charge. You are welcome to try out a class for a drop-in fee of $18 per class. New students can also take advantage of promotional coupons or rates for newcomers (e.g., Groupon).
